Wu Tang Rap Idol

Supporting the next gen is obvs commendable but wow. Way to commercialize an already destabilized, once-organic/authentic familybrandinstitution. Couldn't they just sponsor a talent show?

Wu Tang Management proudly announces the official launch of The Next 9 Generals of Wu Tang competition beginning on February 1st 2010. The competition will comprise of an eight city tour including, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, Chicago, and Los Angeles; in search of the next 9 generals in Wu Tang! All contestants may begin early registration on February 1st 2010 online at www.wucompetition.com.

Judges include Wu Tang management CEO and founder, John "Mook" Gibbons, who was instrumental in bringing the unknown Wu Tang Clan to unprecedented acclaim in the early 90s. He used his traditional education and non traditional street education to take the Clan from obscurity to worldwide prominence.

Steph Lova, one of urban culture's most prominent voices will also be a judge for the competition. She currently graces the New York airwaves on Power 105.1 and WKYS 93.9FM. Steph Lova excels at entertaining the listening audience with her bubbly personality, great sense of humor and overall dynamic radio presence. She has recently appeared on VH1's Fabulous Life, BET's Rap City, 106 & Park and MTV2 as a host.

Steve Rifkind, founder and CEO of Loud Records, and is credited for breaking some of the biggest artists during his tenure in the entertainment industry, including Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Akon, David Banner and Big Pun. He has also launched marketing campaigns for Adidas, Chief Executive Air, T-Mobile and ScanDisk.

Lamont Jody Hawkins, better known as U-God, is an American rapper and member of the multi-platinum hip hop collective, Wu-Tang Clan. He has been with the group since its inception, and has been known for coming with strong verses on clan albums as well as other members solo albums.
