Check the print, it's where veterans spark the letterings

A tweet from Rza today regarding a certain Liquid Swords 2 and an Autumnal release. This is BIG.

Protools was hearty, even if it felt a little more compilation then cohesive studio product. Super curious to see how the Rza/Gza energy will manifest 15 years on from the original.

Biggup hiphophypedog for the headsup.

Black British Lesbians

New archive in the making for Black British lesbians and their herstory. I'll be following this one eagerly. Blurb below, along with an email addy for anyone with info they wanna contribute.

The basis for this blog is the chronology printed in Valerie Mason-John & Ann Khambatta's 1993 book 'Lesbians Talk Making Black Waves'.

The herstory of Black British lesbians is being lost. Our books our out of print and our memories are not always being shared. My aim is to update the chronology with your help.

If you know of any groups, events, meetings etc that should be added to this timeline please add them to the blog or email me at nazmiaijamal@gmail.com.

This is the first step in a larger archive project. I will be applying for funding over the summer to set up a proper website. If you have any images, documents, publications, banners, memories etc that you would like to share please do get in touch.

Nas & Damian Marley - 'As We Enter'

Kinda 'Gravel Pit' in the rhythm, and just a teensy bit o 'Tearz' in the verse organ sample. S'alright though.

Good bookage

I have a habit of reading two or three books at a time. A novel has to be intense and super special for me to commit to it in a monogamous fashion. Peter Carey's Bliss had the sage smoke.

It's been a while since a plot made me ache in that salt-clean way. Bitter realism, honey-sweetened madness and bliss that curtails the fracturing in Katherine Mansfield's genuine, re birthing of the term. Just bee-utiful.

KK survives to live another day

YES.

Rucka's DC exit left me anxious to the nth, but J.H Williams III has announced our red-head siren will not only continue to break hearts/heads, but will also get her own title. About fricken time too. Williams will handle the art and co-write with W. Haden Blackman (Hellboy: Weird Tales) who takes over Rucka's empty seat, and Amy Reeder (Madame Xanadu) is on board for art on the second arc.

The energy of the first few issues with the lush vinyl blacks and reds was epic. Rucka/Williams were like the metaphorical gay dads who birthed this Batwoman incarnation into being and Rucka leaving is kinda like splitting up the fam. Let's hope the reconstituted unit and it's step-parents can bring the magic.

Sisters With Voices

SWV own a glowy, teen-crush shaped place in my heart forever. This is one of my summer anthems, every lovely year.

Guru drama

A short summary breaking down the shady going-ons surrounding Guru's death from The Guardian:

Tragic that this situation, already awful, has to be riddled with beef and conspiracy.

That said, I'm not buying the 'letter'. Sickness does not strip an MC like Guru of eloquence and basic grammar.

Who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

I am STOOPIDLY excited about Psalm One's upcoming Woman At Work EP, which comes out via Rhymesayers. Death Of The Frequent Flyer was/is bangarang, and I've been bouncing slowly to 'Open For Business' (download for freezer here) like nobodies business. Also check her guest spot on Canibus's Melatonin Magik, billed as The Goddess. She is.

EDIT: Psalm's peeps have informed me that Women At Work is a hello project, preceding a fuller release in 2011. So we're getting that more and more and more.

comicwatch

Good news: The Runaways are coming to screen. Marvel, please do not botch this.

Sadfaceanxious news: The Rucka/Williams Batwoman run is at a precipice! Rucka has announced he's leaving DC (shocker?!), which leaves our dyke heroine hanging in the balance. The Question too, though it's Ms Kane that I'm more worried about. The writing has slipped somewhat in the last three issues, and I'm not feeling Jock's art a.t a.l.l.

Woe that the Rucka/Williams partnership has dissolved and double woe that this lush, lush run is kinda over.
